Review

'An intelligent, acutely drawn picture of a difficult marriage'

(Daily Telegraph )

Product Description

The gorgeous new novel from bestselling novelist, Catherine Alliott, author of NOT THAT KIND OF GIRL and A MARRIED MAN.

There are already three people in artist Imogen Cameron’s marriage – herself, her husband, Alex, and their son, Rufus – and that’s just the way she likes it. But all that’s about to change… When the Camerons hit dire financial straits they are forced to move out of London and accept an offer from Eleanor Latimer of a rent-free cottage on her estate. Ordinarily, the offer of a free home in the country is not to be sniffed at but as Eleanor just happens to be Alex’s beautiful, rich and frankly flirtatious ex, Imogen is very sniffy indeed.

And with good reason. Once installed in Shepherd’s Cottage, Imogen’s life is suddenly full to bursting with surly locals, psychotic chickens, mountains of manure, visits from the infuriatingly bossy vet, and of course Eleanor; who seems to be permanently at Alex’s side. As far as Imogen’s concerned, two’s a marriage, three’s a family and this…well, this is just silly, someone’s going to have to go. The question is who?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!, 5 Oct 2006

Brilliant! this is Catherine Alliott back on form, i have read all her books and enjoyed them all but found the last one Not That Kind of Girl to be not up to her usual high standard. A Crowded Marriage is hugely funny with many laugh out loud moments very like The Old girl Network and Rosie Meadows Regrets which i wholeheartedly recommend to anyone wanting a fun lighthearted read having just finished this one i'm having trouble trying to get the grin off my face !

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable summer read, 3 Aug 2007
By Sandy Island (Hampshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Crowded Marriage (Paperback)
I picked this book up at the hotel we were staying at this summer in Italy (you know where you leave books for others to read that you have finished with) Really glad I did, couldn't put it down once I started. Thoroughly enjoyed it, not usually into 'chick-lit' but will now read more of Alliott's work. Lots of funny bits, some cringing 'Bridget Jones' moments too, can people really be that stupid? I thought the ending was a bit cliché, but all-in-all a good summer read!

Bought this book and had it on my shelf for 6months before i forced my self to read it and im so glad i did! The synopsis did this book no favors.. It was a lovely, funny and easy read with a plot that i never saw coming ( maybe im just a little slow) The ending could have better but all in all i would highly recommend this book :)
