4.0 out of 5 stars International Scientific Thrillers, 3 Aug 2004
By Scottish Dave (Edinburgh, Scotland) - See all my reviews

Bill Napier was a new author to me and this 2 in 1 read was given to me as a present. Napier writes scientific thrillers which sees his main characters move around the world. Of the two I enjoyed Revalation the best. Napier is a Scottish author and the first part of the story is set in Edinburgh. It was fantasic being lead around the areas of Edinburgh I was familiar with (including the magnificant Scotch Malt Whisky Society!). I found myself gripped with Revalation and read it almost in one sitting. Nemesis was also a good read but the ending was a bit predictable and the science was a bit heavier. Nemesis centres around space science with an asteroid on course to hit earth while Revelation is about a post-war nuclear weapon that could be developed. Both were enjoyable international thrillers. You don't have to keep up with all the science to enjoy both titles. I give Nemesis a 6/10 and Revelation a 8/10 and plan to track down Napier's other books at some stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thriller in every Sense of the Word, 9 April 2007
By J. Chippindale (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)

There are a plethora of books that have jumped on the band wagon that is the Da Vinci Code, but Bill Napier wrote this book in 1998, well before Dan Brown wrote his book. Nemesis really is a thriller and one that I heartily recommend.

A report from the CIA confirms that Russian cosmonauts have somehow managed to change the path of an asteroid in space and set it on a collision course for the United States. A top team of the world's best astronomers have a maximum of five days to identify the asteroid, given the code name of Nemesis and if they manage to do so they will then have the not inconsiderable task of deflecting the asteroid before it reaches the earth's atmosphere.

With time extremely critical and the team becoming increasingly desperate in their bid to avert a disaster the like of which the world has never seen, Oliver Webb a British asteroid expert discovers that the course of the asteroid was once predicted in a 17th century Latin manuscript, the sole copy of which has mysteriously gone missing . . .

Bill Napier is up there with the best when it comes to writing this type of novel and this is as good as any. A really exciting book that thrills and frightens the reader at the same time.
