A very worthy book for the 50th anniversary. The bulk of the content is a recap of storylines through the years but it's not as in-depth as in Daran Little's book for the 40th anniversary so for 1960-2000 that book remains definitive, and I was disappointed that there is nothing on the production history of the show. At least the aesthetics are good - it's very readable, and full of pictures I've never seen before (although as it's an official tie-in book, that's only to be expected). The best section is the 50 top characters/actors icons, which include quotes from the actors (if still alive), many of whom you don't hear from often (saying that, I could have done without the two-page spread devoted to Sean Tully/Antony Cotton!)

This book was given to me as a birthday present and as a die-hard Corrie fan I couldn't have wished for anything better. It offers a fantastically comprehensive review of the show from the 1960's to the present day. It is very well written and full of fantastic photographs that at times made me feel I was flicking through a family photo album LOL. :)

The format of the book is excellent, it allows you to dip in and out of interesting character profiles and story lines through the decades and dotted throughout the book are some of the most memorable and funny quotes from the show, like Hilda Ogden on Elsie Tanner:

"I've always said that woman were a Jezebel. And this is proof of it. I mean, why else would anybody want a pink bath?"

No other soap does it as well in terms of the writing, humour and characterisation. This book captures all of that and celebrates it. I strongly recommend it to all Corrie fans.

I am such a fan of the Street that I pre-ordered this book and had v v high expectations as I had heard really good things about it. From the minute it arrived, I could NOT put it down - it is brilliant - evoking so many memories of the show over the decades. The best things about it for me are the intervoews with people you NEVER see interviewed (Barbara Knox, Eileen Derbyshire) and the scripts from highly memorable episodes. A beautifully written tribute to the best show on earth. BUY IT!!!!!!

Since my mother wasn't even born when Coronation Street began in 1960, I missed out on the classic characters such as Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner the first time round. Corrie is a British legend, and this book charts its first 50 years.

Split into decades, Fifty Years of Coronation Street chronicles the major plots in time order, interspersed with 1- or 2-page "Icon" profiles for fifty major characters, from Ken Barlow to Tina McIntyre. It's very well put together with some special features, such as a page of Blanch-isms, and very easy to follow. My only disappointment is that there isn't more of it - but perhaps that's just greedy.

It's a fantastic overview and helps the reader make connections with characters and storylines gone by. It's a must for any Corrie fan, for educational or nostalgic purposes depending on your age.

I bought this book for a true Coronation Street fan at Christmas. Lots of pictures and write ups about the Street's best loved characters over the last 50 years. Just before wrapping this item, I found myself flicking through the pages and laughing at some of Corrie's classic lines from characters such as Norris and dear old Blanche ! An ideal and fun gift for the true Coronation Street Connoisseur.

I bought this for my mother to give to a friend so it's a couple of steps removed from me. However, she was absolutely delighted with it. I chose this particular book just by reading previous reviews on Amazon. It certainly lived up to expectations - good detailed information and, best of all, lots of wonderful pictures. A must-have for the serious Corrie aficionado.

I ordered two books, one for myself and one for a friend who was born on the day Coronation Street was first shown.
I mainly bought them as a souvenier of the event. The only disapointment was that I bought one for my friend's birthday as I thought it would have a page with 9th December 1960 to 9th December 2010 on, but it didn't.
