Product Description

‘Age is irrelevant, unless you happen to be a bottle of wine’ - Joan Collins. Keren Smedley is passionate about altering outdated stereotypes about age and helping people to change their beliefs and attitudes to aging. As an accredited life and business coach – for Saga among other organizations – she has been asked every kind of question you could imagine, and some you couldn’t, about the uncertainties and problems of today’s baby boomer. Whether it’s about sexuality, money, relationships, health, friends, planning for the future, the best selection of those questions is contained here in WHO’S THAT WOMAN IN THE MIRROR? You will be impressed by the wisdom of the answers – and the endless variety of the questions. Like an extended problem page for baby boomers, this book will inform as it entertains.

5.0 out of 5 stars The woman's gloves-off guide to ageing!, 28 April 2008
By J. N. Warren (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

A womans' gloves-off guide to aging
By Jayne Warren

"Who's That Woman in the Mirror?" by author, counsellor and consultant Keren Smedley is simply one of the best new books I have read about the experiences encountered by women in middle age and beyond. Candid, factual and carefully constructed with searching questions, honest answers and excellent exercises, this book is set to help many women come to terms with a whole range of often conflicting and painful emotions.

I passed the book round my office and beyond for feedback (I'm fibbing - actually it was seized upon and fought over). It was unanimously good. But what really impressed me is this: these were all women of 'certain ages' who had very different life circumstances - and the book held some priceless advice for them all. From finding yourself alone, childless and vulnerable, suddenly fancying other women or struggling with children leaving home, to looking at your lifelong partner and thinking "I'm utterly bored", the real life question and answer format just works.

I suspect that Keren's passion for challenging our outdated stereotypes of aging will be warmly welcomed by thousands of `baby boomer' fifty-somethings, who are trailblazers for a new kind of life post fifty - which is more about embracing a new life than ending an old one. The problems faced by the current generation of women approaching fifty are vastly different from the worries that their mothers had at the same age. To that end, Keren has compiled every question that you could imagine - plus many you may not have thought of - and given clear, practical answers to coping with these new challenges.

The book tackles questions too numerous to outline here, but include: How do I go about meeting someone new? How can I reignite the spark with the man that I've been with for the past thirty years? How do I introduce my new man to my children? How do I make time for me when I've got elderly parents to look after?
How do I cope having to keep on working because I can't afford to retire? How do I stop feeling trapped in my job because of my age? How do I start a new career in my fifties?

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly inspiring, 16 Mar 2008

Having just reached 'a certain age' myself, empty nest and all, I had been finding it hard to find anything to be positive about. Keren Smedley's book has been a god-send! It has been so wonderful to have someone rationalising the way I have been feeling and put things into a clear perspective. It is not all downhill from 50 and I am embracing my middle-aged self! This book is utterly inspiring. Every woman should have a copy!
