Product Description
Suicide has been part of human life since the dawn of time, but has never been so widely and openly discussed as it is today. With the ongoing debate about the rights of the terminally ill to end their own lives, the phenomenon of Internet sites dedicated to advice on how to end your life, and the craze for mass suicides among the Japanese, suicide is rarely out of the news in the 21st century.

Udo Grashoff has discovered 45 suicide notes that help us to better understand why despairing people commit the ultimate taboo. In this fascinating collection those reasons are remarkably universal, from unrequited love, to loss of a spouse, to simple frustration with a domestic situation.

Despite the universality of its subject matter, this book is unique.

This review is from: Let Me Finish (Hardcover)
Everyone who reads this compilation will, sooner or later be captivated by the sorrow and authentic pain on its pages. The introduction is a balsm of redemption and understanding. It is a valuable as the letters themselves.

2.0 out of 5 stars My God Man what where you thinking? , 12 Dec 2008
By Lark (Ireland) - See all my reviews
I bought this book since I've been very interested in how individuals develop either resilience or vulnerability to all life has to throw at them. In other places I've encountered some very life affirming messages, copeing strategies, philosophies. Not so here.

I found this book to be only what I could describe as a VERY morbid curiousity. I gave it too stars because its well laid out, the contents are simple and straightforward, the introductory chapter is broken down into subheadings dealing with motivations or explanations, ie protest, mass phenomenon, problem solving, illness, there then are the actual suicide notes (one of which is a text message!!) with some supporting script explaining them because they are obviously for the most part pretty personal and the product of troubled individuals. There's also a good references and a bibliography of sorts.

However why?! Its very morbid like I say be prepared for what you receive if you buy this book and ask yourself why this one in particular, there are other more life affirming materials around.
