Product Description

Review
'Much better than the average autobiography' -- Huddersfield Daily Examiner 'Refreshingly fair and candid with his views on players, managers and the state of the game' -- Northern Echo 'The book will have a widespread appeal. He deserves it to do well' -- Halifax Evening Courier 'A cracking read' -- When Saturday Comes 'A fascinating, readable and very frank account of a long football career' -- Programme Monthly

Product Description
Neil Redfearn is a man dedicated to - some might say obsessed by - football. He's just about the last of the generation of players who began near the bottom, made it to the top and then moved back down the ladder again. He has seen promotion to the Premiership (with Barnsley and Oldham) and relegation from the Football League (with Halifax); made nearly 1000 senior appearances over 24 seasons as a professional and scored just short of 200 goals. He talks about the managers he has played for - including Brian Clough, Alan Curbishley and Joe Royle -as well as some he hasn't: Arsene Wenger once called him 'the dirtiest player in the Premiership'. Still playing at the age of 40 - as player-manager of Conference side Scarborough -and poised to move into full-time management, Neil Redfearn has a unique perspective on what it's like when football literally becomes your life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will we ever see the likes again?, 23 Dec 2006
"Good honest pro" thats what people always said of him. Dogged and resilient, Redfearn always appeared to be a managers dream. This book casts some light on the way he behaved behind the scenes and how he was more hard work than hard worker for his gaffers. I doubt we will see players like this in our top flight again. A player with much more ability than ever he got credit for. What would he make of todays pampered "hard men" Savage Barton etc. Not in the same class!!! An icon for the Barnsley fans and a deserved place in their hall of fame. Well wrote book gives an insight into his "demise" from the league to the conference.

1.0 out of 5 stars It was just a bit dull.., 20 Jan 2009

I don't support any of the teams "redders" played for,but i always admired him as as a footballer, and it's very uncommon nowadays for footballers to drop down the leagues and for that he should be applauded.BUT...
this book is the height of tedium, if you want a day by day account of what a player does then read this and be bored if you want to read something interesting then look elsewhere

4.0 out of 5 stars WERE YOU THAT GOOD NEIL?, 18 Aug 2007

AS FAR AS FOOTBALL BIOGRAPHIES GO THIS IS A GOOD READ, IT COVERS LIFE IN THE PREMIERSHIP AND THE LOWER LEAGUES. REDFEARN APPEARS TO THINKS HE WAS BETTER THAN HE ACTUALLY WAS, IF HE WAS AS GOOD AS HE THOUGHT HE WAS, HE WOULD OF BEEN ENGLAND CAPTAIN!
