Product Description

Product Description

Darius has been in the public eye from his first appearance on "Popstars" through to being a "Pop Idol" finalist and then becoming a successful recording artist in 2002 with the number one "Colourblind" and his platinum album "Dive In". In this book, Darius reveals what really went on behind the scenes of both shows and promises a few surprises. He also shares some very private moments, giving insight into the man and his career.

About the Author

Darius Danesh was born in Glasgow in 1980 to a Persian father and Scottish mother. He first sang in public at the age of 4 and persuaded his parents to buy him a guitar when he was 9. He studied English Literature at Edinburgh University and it was while he was here that friends took him along to the radio audition that led to 'Popstars', the TV show that made him a household name. Offers of record deals followed but he decided to stay on his degree course. However, when 'Pop Idol' came around he felt ready to have a crack at it. The show became a phenomenon and he came third in the competition. In May 2002 he signed to Mercury in a deal that allows him to fulfill his dreams of both song-writing and performing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sink or Swim is Fantastic, 3 Sep 2003
By A Customer
I have just read Sink or Swim (for the second time) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is well written, entertaining, moving and beautifully produced. Rather than being an autobiography, it is the story of what went on behind the scenes and between the two shows Popstars and Pop Idol. It moves along at a cracking pace, just like the man himself, and I found I couldn't put it down. I learnt a lot about how hard it is to stay true to yourself while searching for that elusive record deal and admire Darius all the more for holding out for what he believed in.

Very engrossing and interesting read. Sad and moving but also uplifting and funny in places. Very inspirational story with great substance and proves without doubt that anything is possible with courage and self-belief you can turn adversity into a triumph. A very intelligent book - I couldn't put it down once i had started to read it. Well done Darius

3.0 out of 5 stars Sink or Swim, 7 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Have read this and my advice is request it from the local library before you decide whether to buy it or not, I didn't think it was worth the money.
It's an OK read but just contains the usual pop star "revelations". There's nothing in there that the public don't already know, the bullying at school is decribed in more graphic detail, although the reasons why he was bullied aren't really gone into. The Pop Idol / Stars section don't have anything new about the way the contestants were treated, the hounding and battering by the press after PS's, the reported deal offered by Cowell and Co and turned down as Darius wanted to do it his way or not at all etc etc etc
As I said it's OK, lots of nice pictures but on the thin side. But at the end of it, I didn't feel I knew anything about him that I didn't already.
More a "Skinny Latte" than a full "Expresso"
3/5
