Exceptionally well done, 18 Nov 2001
Evelyn's book is done with complete honesty, at the risk of exposing herself to the world in a way that can only help those who suffer in life through abuse. I could not put the book down, I cannot tell you how much this book has affected my daily living, and how I saw through the eyes of this courageous woman, how to get past the violence and move onto greater things. She has made a huge contribution to society with this book. I admire her determination, and I know that she has helped many and through this media will be able to help others who have suffered the same pain. I highly recommend reading this journey into the life of absolute horror and see the butterfly that emerges with the wings that span across the world to help all those who have suffered. Thank you Francine J. Pucillo

Can't imagine living a life of abuse., 5 Aug 2001
By A Customer
I read the book "Totally Discombobulated" and found it very compeling. It is unbelivable that anyone from a large and loving family could keep a secret from the other members of her family the violence she was enduring. I respect Evelyn for keeping her children safe. Of course, a mother will do anything to protect her children, even if it is protection from their own father. I'm sure any abuse she took, she would take again to keep her children safe. Working and making sure her children were fed and properly clothed was a task within itself, plus taking all the abuse from her husband, tells me Evelyn had to be a very strong person to survive all the ordeals she faced and was put through. In my mind, I try to place myself in her situation and I wonder if I would of had the strength to endure her battered life. It amazes me how she found the strength to do so. Evelyn has my utmost admiration and respect. I feel this book should be read by everyone. The violence against women as well as men must be addressed and we need to put an end to the violence. Having a loving family, I find it hard to believe all that Evelyn endured.

Suspenseful, dramatic portail of life in domestic terror!, 20 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This book immediately transports you to a scene of terror, not the type of terror we normally think of, but a terror that many people live in every day of their lives. The author paints a visual scene of post WWII southern US living. The ever present fight between good & evil that can take place between Husband & Wife, with children at risk, growing up with constant fear, making the most of the opportunities, but living as their religious beliefs and social pressures demanded. This is a period piece, a historical reference, a lifetime saga rolled into one riviting book. The word spellbinding is appropriate because you are drawn in and can't put this book down. The characters come to life and scare you even when you know they are not present, but most of all, and unfortunately for this family, this is a true story. "The Grapes of Wrath", meets "Disclosure" and "Roots" all come to mind as partial comparisons. This will make an awesome movie! I know this author personally and have found her to be truly interested in having this story help others find a way to improve their lives. She is very involved in social work, consoling & counciling men & women who've found themselves in this tortured lifestyle. When you know the triumphant survivor who wrote this it makes the long and terrible road even more unbelievable. If you were lucky to be raised in a good home, and have a good spouse, this book will make you very thankful for the blessing you've recieved and much more tolerent of the people around you who are struggling to hide an existance similar to what is presented here. This is a time trip, and a journey into the minds society's most overlooked criminals, whose crimes after-effects last for generations. Take a journey where few have dared to look, at ourselves. This is a gripping story you will remember the rest of your life, and a subject society will finally be talking about in the coming years. It would be a bargain at twice the price. Read this and share it with your friends, family and social circle. You will be glad you did. It will make a difference in you! Don't start this book till you have some time to read, your going to need it! Alan Wilkerson, President, Ozark Business Weekly
