Product Description

Product Description

This guide to horsemanship covers every aspect of the subject, from the diverse and specialist equipment for both horse and rider to learning to ride and competing in riding competitions. The first section of the book is a directory-style approach to the complete range of horse equipment. Saddles, bridles and bits, training aids and gadgets, clothing and protective equipment are all discussed in detail. Step-by-step sequences on fitting tack are designed to benefit novice riders, and expert riders can compare the many examples of contemporary designs. The second section is a step-by-step presentation of riding techniques. It begins with the basics of horse riding and progresses to demonstrating more advanced skills, including refining rhythm and balance and riding cross-country. The third and final section covers the world of horse riding competitions. Divided between jumping and non-jumping competitions, this section examines the well-known sports of show-jumping, polo and dressage, as well as the more obscure competitions, such as endurance riding, vaulting and driving. There are details on how each competition is judged, tips on how to train your horse for different sports and advice on choosing the most appropriate competition for your skill level and the ability of your horse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best horse book I have ever read!, 30 Oct 2004
This book is excellent! I am a teenager, and have been riding for 2 years, and I am now helping out at my local stables. I was stuck at first though. How could I learn stable management? There were lessons at the stables, £12.00 per half hour, but I couldn't afford that. My problems were solved when I saw this book in a saddlery shop nearby. It gives you over 50 pages of cleaning tack, types of tack etc. And after that section there's one about riding, which helped me even more, never mind the section about horse sports. If you are a rider, have your own horse, or just considering starting to ride, I strongly suggest buying this book!!
