Product Description

Synopsis

On a busy Washington morning, the stately calm of the White House is shattered as terrorists gain control of the executive mansion, slaughtering dozens of people. The president is evacuated to an underground bunker, but not before nearly one hundred hostages are taken. One man is sent in to take control of the crisis. Mitch Rapp, the CIA's top counter-terrorism operative, determines that the president is not as safe as Washington's power elite had thought. Moving among the corridors of the White House, Rapp makes a chilling discovery that could rock Washington to its core: someone within his own government wants his rescue attempt to fail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Move over Jack Ryan, 4 Jun 2006
By Michael Watson "skirrow22" (Halifax, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Transfer of Power (Paperback)
Thanks to another reviewer on Amazon of a different book, I became aware of this author and am heartily glad to have done so! Now that Jack Ryan has become the President and can no longer save the democratic (with a small 'd') world, there's a vacuum to be filled and who better than Mitchell Rapp? Vince Flynn takes over where Clancy left off and this book, the first to feature our hero, was written before the downfall of Saddam Hussein but it captures the fanaticism of the terrorist and the weakness of the political system. Whether the US military is this good is debatable but, no matter, the story races along and the 550 pages seem half that as the reader joins the escapades of Mich and Milt (not a TV show!) together with a very much restrained love interest in Anna Rielly. I have the other books in the series and I can't wait. The missing star is for one or two repeat lines which are delivered as if only for the first time - a very small niggle in an otherwise excellent read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it, Read it Immediately, 19 July 2005

This review is from: Transfer of Power (Paperback)
I bought this book some time ago and it has been sitting in a bookcase ever since. What a mistake this turned out to be as this is one of the best books I have read in a long time. In the Genre of Political/ Terrorist thriller it is up there with the best. The plot moves briskly and there is enough action that you want to keep reading. Mitch Rapp is a believable character, and you find yourself wanting him to succeed. I would advise anyone to read this book. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't put it down, 13 Aug 2001
This review is from: Transfer of Power (Paperback)
An incredible book, I totally enjoyed it. The characters were more than believable - you really felt you got involved. As for the plot! What an idea - just read this book for the basic concept alone. Also it was nice to read a book of this type with out cringing at the clichés and corny parts. I finished the book 2 hours ago and I've already ordered the next one. This author is that good.

This is a fast paced read. I won't go through the plot as some say it's far fetched and others think there is a lot of truth. Read more
