4.0 out of 5 stars A vivid treatment of an exciting period of history, 12 Oct 2000
By A Customer
A lively study of one of the more shameful periods of European history. I first read this book some 15 years ago and passages of it have remained with me to this day. The excerpts from contemporary chronicles it quotes are reminicent of the excesses of the tabloids. An excellent and accessible treatment
