Product Description

THE MAN WHO MADE MAKING MOVIES COOL AGAIN AND THE MOVIES THAT DID IT In 1992 Tarantino burst onto the scene with Reservoir Dogs and created a brand of hip-taking hypnotically shot, ultra violent US indie cinema that re-invigorated mainstream American film and spawned many imitators. Now take a detailed look at those pictures Tarantino has directed, those scripts of his made into films by other directors - including True Romance and the controversial, and heavily re-written Natural Born Killers - along with his other work, including both his episode of NBC's ER and his projects as an actor, producer and presenter. Explore the significance of the director's use of favourite actors, anachronisms, borrowed music and reference points and how they relate to recurring themes such as heritage, personal responsibility and redemption.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the very best, 6 April 2006
By Sebastian Haselbeck "SebH" (Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"One of the very best books about Tarantino's movies to day, Smith manages to both analyze his movies from a point of view noone else before him has done, and take a look at the man's work in a numer of contexts that matter to his fans. Well-written, full of insight and not too short, this book might very well make it to the top of must-read Tarantino books." - Sebastian H.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very detailed and informative, 17 Jul 2008
This book is vital in getting to know Tarantino the writer and director. Jim Smith covers all of Tarantino's major films that he wrote, even the ones he didn't direct himself. The book is filled with detailed information about each film as well as information about side projects and any other Tarantino-related facts. It really is a great read especially if you're a huge fan of Tarantino and if you're generally interested in Film and the Media. The book is written in a way that it deconstructs some scenes (make sure you've seen the film before reading about it due to spoilers!) where the author gives his own opinions and connotations about what the film presents to the audience. The use of his own ideas creates a feeling that the book is just one long essay by a Media Studies & Film enthusiast and provides a lot of helpful insight that would be particualarly useful to Film students. I borrowed this book from the library but would definitely buy it in the near future!
