Product Description

Product Description

The BBC describes Doctor Who as the most poular ongoing series it has ever made. Now, over forty years after the first episode aired, the cult series has returned to the small screen with a huge budget and with acclaimed writer/producer Russel T Davies at the helm. A new generation of viewers is ready to adopt Christopher Eccleston as 'their' Doctor, just as previous generations embraced William Hartnell, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison. The unofficial guide, covering every aspect of Doctor Who broadcast to date, details not just the 700-plus episodes of the TV series (1963 to 1989) but also the radio serials, TV movie, charity specials and Internet-broadcast animated serials that have been transmitted while the television series has been off the air. Providing transmission dates, trivia, opinions and commentary, Who's Next will inform and entertain the series' newest viewers as well as providing long-term fans with a fresh and indispensable set of critical perspectives.

About the Author

4.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to the series, 28 Mar 2005
By A Customer
I'm new to Doctor Who and wanted help with where to go next: this book is really useful in explaining past story-lines and characters and is written in a light, entertaining style with lots of funny bits. I'd definitely recommend it for beginners - although new fans looking only for stuff on Chris 'n Billie will be disappointed and should try elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars New to Who? Start here..., 25 Feb 2005
By A Customer
If you're not up to speed with the good Doctor (and you've had 42 years - where were you?) and want in on the soon-come new series with Chris Eck, this book is a handy one-stop primer on the show's history. Unoffical (ie non-Beeb) but written with love and attention to detail by a troika of fans, it's got everything from soup to nuts in chronological order (ironically enough). And if you're already a Who fan there are still surprises to be had here - for instance, are the Hartnell/Davison/McCoy eras really better than the seventies stuff? The debate starts here...

4.0 out of 5 stars Critical, but affectionate look at Dr Who, 1 Jul 2008
By Archy (ALTRINCHAM, Cheshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is an unofficial, unauthorised guide, put together to tie in with the new series. While not as thorough as the official television guide or as easy to dip into as the essential pocket guide it does offer details of all adventures, is fairly balanced, with some pointed criticism. This does get rather nit picky in places, as few episodes are without their faults and clangers.

It also gives details of other shows the various cast members have been in, and is quite easy to refer to. There are details about the Doctor that come to light in each adventure, which is interesting, especially since these contradict one another sometimes.

Probably more for the committed fan, but fun nonetheless
