Product Description

Product Description

This is the latest in Spike's hilarious re-interpretations of classic works of literature, now available in paperback. This version of Robin Hood has Robin and his merry men when the King's deer manage to evade their arrows, dining out at McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken and eating jam sandwiches. Nevertheless, they are still more than willing to do battle with Robin's arch enemy Sir Guy de Custard Gisborne. The fair Maid Marion, of course, is the object of much of Robin's attention, and his pursuit of the beautiful Marion leads him and his men into many adventures. Lucky for him that his band of outlaws include the immensely strong Big Dick and immensely insolent Groucho Marx. Paying Scant regrd to any previous versions of this age old folk tale, Spike thunders through his riotous story like a runaway horse through Sherwood.

From the Back Cover

Sharper than the edge of a mighty broadsword and slicker than a speeding arrow, Spike Milligan rampages through the tale of Robin Hood like an outlaw on the run through Sherwood Forest.
All of Robin's Merry Men are in attendance in Spike's Robin Hood, although not quite as they were in the original. Maid Marion is a champion pole vaulter, Little John has been renamed Big Dick (for reasons we need not go into here) and Will Scarlet and Friar Tuck are joined by a brand new addition to the renegade band - Groucho Marx.
Together the men, and women, of Sherwood do battle against the evil Prince John, the despicable Sheriff of Nottingham and the loathsome Sir Guy de Custard Gisborne.
'Who loosed that arrow?' demanded Prince John. He turned as he spoke and saw at the edge of the glade a man wearing a green cloak over his suit of brown widdling against a tree. 'Who goes there?' called the Prince, pointing to the tree. 'We all do.'
You've never seen anything like this in green tights before.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book, 9 Aug 2005
By A Customer
Ok so you think you know Robin Hood? Speaking as someone who lived in Nottingham throughout her childhood I have to say I was facinated by him, I couldn't get enough of the storys and films, I found this book by accident a while ago and I have to say if there was one book that I'd never get tired of this is it! It's funny it's orignial and it shows off spikes amazing sence of humour at its best. He's done some other books in this series and I recommend them all, everything about them is funny, if you need a pick me up then give this a go, you won't want to put it down again and you'll certainly have never heard a version of Mr Hood quite like it

5.0 out of 5 stars Robin de Goon..., 18 Dec 2009
By Martin Swift (Scotland. U. K.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
You'll never understand the original story or watch any future programme or film on Robin Hood after reading this delightful cover by Spike Milligna - that well known spelling error...Spike takes any story and turns it into a novel of the Goons...you can just imagine the great ones taking the characters like Robin, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck and all and being portrayed in the Goonish style we came to love...
