1.0 out of 5 stars Poor not usual Bagshawe, 17 July 2008
This review is from: Glitz (Hardcover)
I have been a fan of Louise's books for the past 5 years and have read them all so was really looking forward to this book. I felt this book was so unrealistic, lacked substance, lacked depth and gave me the impression it had been written very quickly to make a quick buck with little thought. There were no clever twists or tunrs as her other books, it was sooo predictable I knew what the story would be from the first few pages. one of the worst books Ive read, would not have expected this from Bagshawe.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a lot of Glitz, 2 Sep 2008
This review is from: Glitz (Hardcover)
I bought Louise Bagshawe's new book 'Glitz' expecting a light, fun, easy read. However, this book was so lacking in characterisation, a decent plot and effective scene setting, I was disappointed. It is an easy read, but I wanted something in it to entertain me, too! I have read and enjoyed other books by Bagshawe, but this feels like she took the basic plots and characters from other books such as Glamour and the Devil you know- 3 or 4 strong, beautiful, rich women who suffer some sort of setback and carve out successful careers, bag powerful sexy men and come out on top whilst embracing sisterhood and friendship- and inserted different names and careers, but without any plot twists or surprises. Unlike her other books, I didn't really care about the characters and their descriptions were just reams of designer namechecks. The end was extraordinary too- as though Louise really didn't care any more, her editor wanted the book immediately, and she banged off a couple of sentances in an attempt to tie up the loose ends.
I hope that this book is just a blip and the author will go back writing the strong, exciting books that she has before.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another Disappointment, 16 Aug 2008
By Bookworm29 (Bodrum, Turkey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glitz (Hardcover)
I loved Louise Bagshawe's earlier work ( Career Girls, The Movie, Tall Poppies). They were really good reads, hot, sexy, fun...hard to put down. But then came Monday's Child, Tuesday's child and Better The Devil You know. All of these books I enjoyed, but where had the fast paced, sexy storylines and fab men gone?? I keep buying her books in the hope that they will turn out to be as good as her earlier ones, but no.

Which brings me onto 'Glitz'. I bought this in the airport as my 'treat' for the plane. Again, I have to admit that I enjoyed the story, but it just wasn't anything special. I felt the characters were rushed and as for one of the girls falling for a 50 year old......! Please!!!

The ending was a let down, a mature version of "I woke up and it was all a dream".

Bring back the hot men and sexy stories!!!
