Product Description

Product Description

Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner could be forgiven for thinking not only that someone up there doesn't like him, but that someone down here is out to get him. Suffering the strain of a marriage on the rocks, the last thing he needs is for his private life to be plastered across the front pages of a sleazy tabloid. To make matters worse, two brutal murders and new allegations about Skinner himself make simultaneous headlines. As time ticks away, Skinner faces the greatest, and most personal, tests of his career. Unless he can clear his name and uncover the secret behind the series of brutal crimes, he stands to lose everything: his family, his career and even his life and liberty. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

About the Author

Quintin Jardine was a journalist before joining the Government Information Service where he spent nine years as an advisor to ministers and civil servants. In 1986 he became an independent public relations consultant. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well rounded novel, 9 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Although Skinner seems to become a little less believable with each passing novel I am still a big fan and thoroughly enjoyed this story , the main characters continue to develop throughout, making it impossible to read these books out of sequence (very clever Quintin ). The storyline is a real treat kidnap , murder ,revenge you name it its got it, I can normally guess who the bad guys are before the end but my jaw dropped when the end game finally unveiled itself. Ive already started the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fastpaced, shocking novel with a heartstopping end., 8 Jul 2001

Bob Skinner is the type of police officer you hope excists. Whilst the plot is only just believable this should not detract from a cracking read which will keep you guessing to the end. You will not be able to put this book down!

5.0 out of 5 stars A super read, can't wait for the next Skinner and co., 26 Aug 2000
By A Customer
A must for a good read with a story to it as well. However to understand the book properly you do need to have read all of the previous "Skinner" books. I Loved them all and I like the characters - so nice that the people are not alcholics and there are good female roles too! what a refreshing change. Well done keep it up Mr. Jardine lets have more.
