I have bought a fair number of children's story tapes and CD's over the past few years and it is becoming more difficult to find new, reasonably priced and well-written/read selections. This CD meets all of the above criteria. The stories are not re-hashes of familiar fairy tales; they are long enough to contain a decent plot (which many other of the newer compilations do not) - yet short enough to maintain the interest of even the most easily bored 6 year old! There are 2 CD's - with 12 stories on one and 14 on the other - giving 2 hours and 15 mins of play. Brilliant value!! One or two of the stories on the second CD in particular are a little bit scary (but not excessively so, just enough to make it interesting) - you might want to screen it before letting a more sensitive child settle down to hear it before bedtime. This is the first product I've ever bought that I've bothered to recommend. That's how good it is!

I bought this for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas - she likes to listen to story CDs as she has trouble getting off to sleep. As we'd exhaused every Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton audio CD available, I thought we'd give this a try. Little did I think that I would hear her whimpering with fright after listening to one of the later stories. I later listened back to it and it was pretty horrific for an imaginative 7 year old. We didn't get much sleep that night, or the next. Please listen to this CD to judge it for yourself BEFORE you give it to a child.
