Product Description

Vincent Banville, IRISH TIMES

'It's a must for Connelly fans.'

Review

'As the creator of Harry Bosch, Michael Connelly rocketed up the ranks of American crime writers ... the plots were tight and pacy, while the writing was wonderfully clear and vivid. ... But how did he start? Where does he get his inspiration? ... By all accounts Connelly was a great reporter ... Crime Beat is not simply a collection of Connelly's greatest true crime reports. It also, fascinatingly, reveals the novellist in the making.' (MIRROR )

2.0 out of 5 stars read this before you buy.., 6 Jul 2006
By Mr. M. Edwards "pompeymike" (Isle of Wight UK) - See all my reviews

I've read and thoroughly enjoyed everything by Michael Connelly so decided to read this whilst waiting for his next novel to be released. Be warned - this book is a series of newspaper articles (some quite old) about true crimes committed in America. Its interesting and chilling in parts, but not really (as I'd expected) showing how Connelly used his crime writing experiences to come up with Harry Bosch etc. To summarise, no real insight is given as to how he comes up with his fictional charactors, locations, plots etc: just a series of (in my opinion) largely so-so newspaper crime articles..

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the best from Michael Connelly by far., 29 Aug 2006
I love Michael Connelly's books, and very rarely do I stop reading a book from an author that I enjoy, but with this one I could not carry on with it. As stated by another review written for amazon, it is just a collection of newspaper articles, loads of repetition and dead boring. Very disappointed!!!!!

I have wanted this book for ages, well i finally brought it & i must say i'm finding it pretty hard to get into, i find i can't seem to take in what i'm reading..ie it's nearly as boring as a text book!!!!
I will persist in my quest to read this book as i usually love Michael Connelly books so i'll get back to you when & if i finish it!!!!
