Product Description

Product Description
When Colombian Arias Cuevas is caught trying to smuggle drugs through Venice airport, his fear isn't fuelled by the idea of prison. He's much more frightened of his aunt - it was her coke he took off with. The cops set up a sting to find out who was to be the recipient of the drugs, and art smuggler Nazzareno Corradi falls straight into the trap. But he's been set up. His lawyer hires 'the Alligator', and his fixer, Max, to find out what's going on. Soon it becomes apparent why Cuevas was so afraid - the aunt, La Tia, has left a bloody trail in her wake, is now looking to do some business in Italy, and she's not about to let anybody get in her way ...

About the Author
Massimo Carlotto was at the centre of one of the most controversial law cases in Italian history. In January 1976, Carlotto, at that time a member of a left-wing movement, stumbled across a brutally stabbed body in his hometown. The police accused him of the murder, and just before the appeal, his lawyer advised him to run. Betrayed finally in Mexico, Carlotto was captured and tortured, and sent back to Italy. Following trials, mistakes, and changes in the law, he was sent to prison, before being pardoned in 1993. His first book was an autobiography, but he then started writing a series in which the main character, Alligator, is a former convict who becomes a detective, and, like Carlotto, has a thirst for truth and justice.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like crime thrillers..., 2 Feb 2009
By Jim (Reading UK) - See all my reviews
If you like British and American crime thrillers then you'll like this too. While violent it is not blood and guts but something much colder, and more cynical. If you think British and American writers are sometimes cynical about their police then it's nothing compared to this, and some other Italian writers have the same love for the forces of the Italian state. There is a moral heart to this book but it is shadowed by the despair of the characters for themselves, for their country, for the world.
It's got a good plot too.
