3.0 out of 5 stars Not as funny as the man himself, 8 Jan 2004
By M. V. Clarke (Durham, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This book contains a vast number of 'true' stories, either involving Barry Cryer, witnessed by him or told to him. Although Barry Cryer is one of my most favourite comedians, I was a bit disappointed with this book. Somehow the stories didn't seem so funny on paper as they do when he tells them. There were some genuinely funny stories that made me laugh out loud, though these were in the minority. Most were amusing, causing a brief smile rather than a laugh. Some were familiar too, such as Humphrey Lyttleton, 'orthinology' and 'word botching.'

An easy, light-hearted read, but not a true reflection of such a great comic. Listen to recordings of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' or see 'Barry Cryer: The First Farewell Tour' for a real dose of authentic Cryer humour!

4.0 out of 5 stars DOCTOR'S SHOULD PRESCRIBE THIS ONE, 7 Aug 2004
By Mr. R. P. Richardson "adanaman" (Northolt, Middlesex UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Barry Cryer has been around since cavemen first chuckled at their neighbours slipping on banana skins and this very funny little volume packs more laughs into its pages than the average Ken Dodd stand up routine. I enjoyed it immensely. It's really a collection of anecdotes, but Mr Cryer has a particularly intimate style of writing which makes his book stand out among many similar gag collections available. Reading it is rather like standing in the pub listening the the man himself as he flits from one subject to another. "Pigs Can Fly" is an easy read and ideal for dipping into. Dump the Prozac in the bin Doris, Bazza isn't guaranteed to be non-addictive, but he'll put a broad smile on your face.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment, 6 Dec 2008
By P. Girling "peegee" (Lincolnshire UK) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Pigs Can Fly (Paperback)
After reading about one third of this book, I realised that it would be more entertaining and amusing to read the telephone directory - so I went and read the telephone directory. The most disappointing book that I have ever read and all the more upsetting as I have been a 'fan' of Barry's for years. My opinion? don't buy it.
