'Burke's psychological thriller works on many levels, part tragic love story, part mystery, it succeeds because of the strength of its central characters, who soon discover that their salvation lies in a love affair hat nearly destroyed them both.' 5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas Book, 10 Jan 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Frozen (New Blood) (Hardcover)
I am an avid reader and having received many books for Christmas this was by far top of my list for enjoyment.

This book, although slightly slow to start was an excellent read which really captured my interest and I found it hard to put down. The plot was well thought out and the characters and scenarios believable.

I hope the author will be writing another book soon

5.0 out of 5 stars A Suspensful and beautiful, character driven story., 12 Aug 2007
Through the narrator - Harry - Richard Burke takes us through the mystery surrounding the death of Verity. Nothing is quite what it seems, nor the people quite what they appear to be.

The suspense lies in the contradiction between Verity's personality and the way she died. What she appeared to be and the truth that is eventually revealed. Something doesn't add up. The clues lie in Harry's childhood, and the events in the wood, and some missing photographs. But when the truth is revealed, these memories are poisoned further.

The book finishes on a very satisfying, silent and contemplative note. Not your predictable Hollywood ending. Frozen will leave you in just such a state with it's shocking, but all too realistic finish.
