Product Description

Product Description
Maxwell Carter - a fingerprint analyst at the criminal justice facility in Clarksburg, West Virginia - was supplementing his income by running a very simple scam whereby positive fingerprint matches in old crimes could be conveniently 'ignored' in return for a small retainer. But then he caught a shark in his net - one that did not take too kindly to blackmail. Maxwell's illicit career - and his life - were swiftly and brutally ended... When Johnny Harrison is called in to investigate Maxwell's grisly murder he quickly unearths a connection to an old child-murder in the bayous of Louisiana and the close-knit fishing community that work the Mississippi. Deciding to go undercover on one of the old trawlers, he digs into this alien world and starts to realise that he has stumbled on to something both sordid and enormously powerful, something that dates back 100 years into New Orleans's troubled history but could blow up Louisiana's present...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Procession - a superb novel, 31 Mar 2003

This review is from: The Procession (Paperback)
A suberp novel that adds more depth and detail to the intriguing Harrison character first encountered in Storm Crow and Nom de Guerre.

From the opening passages to the satisfying conclusion, Gulvin takes you on a tense journey around the American deep south. The characters are realistic and credible and the attention to detail simply brilliant. The Luisiana backdrop is edgy and dark and will certainly make me think twice before visiting as a tourist :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, 13 Jan 2003
By J. L. J. Wilson "jasonljwilson" (Methlick, Aberdeenshire) - See all my reviews

Okay - so I am a bit biased, being a Jeff Gulvin fan since I picked up Storm Crow several years ago. I couldn't wait for this book to be published.

Unlike Storm Crow, Nom De Guerre and The Covenant it is not directly about international terrorism. However the connection is the FBI agent Harrison who featured in the aforementioned. If you haven't read any of these, do so - given international events Gulvin's detail is superb. He must have some good connections and spend a huge amount of time on research.

The Procession - read it. There are some pretty dark bits, but the attention to detail and relevance to the real world are excellent.

Oh and if you are planning a visit to New Orleans, friends of mine say it is not all that bad. Just watch where you go.
