Product Description

Product Description

Hilary had always thought she'd lived a charmed life. With a caring husband, David, and two lively children, she took an active part in both family and village life. Then, one Monday morning, Hilary's world is turned upside down. She discovers that David is having an affair. How could he? How could he put at risk their children and everything they have built together over the years? But the question is, what should Hilary do? Turn a blind eye, much as neighbour Cindy has done over her own husband's various dalliances? Confront him, as her outspoken new friend Georgia suggests? Or perhaps she should throw herself at attractive newcomer to the village Nick Bradshaw... Whatever happens, it seems certain that for Hilary, life is never going to be quite the same again.

About the Author

With an insatiable appetite for other people's business, Erica James will readily strike up conversation with strangers in the hope of unearthing a useful gem for her writing. She finds it the best way to write authentic characters for her novels, although her two grown-up sons claim they will never recover from a childhood spent in a perpetual state of embarrassment at their mother's compulsion. The author of thirteen bestselling novels, including Gardens of Delight which won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award, and her recent Sunday Times top ten bestseller, Its the Little Things, Erica now divides her time between Cheshire and Lake Como in Italy, where she now strikes up conversation with unsuspecting Italians.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rather like an elongated magazine short story., 26 July 2001
By A Customer
I didn't want to put this book down. I felt sympathy for Hilary and could understand her dilemma about whether to confront her husband or not with the fact that she knew he was having an affair. Hilary's gut reaction was not very upfront and she kept relying on other peoples opinions as to what she should do.I found this part rather sad. I thought that this novel was quite similar to a short story that you would find in a women's magazine. The ending became predictable about three-quarters of the way through...

A fantastic, "couldn't put down" book. Its so very easy to read and before you know it the last page is being turned and your reaching for another of Erica James's fantastic reads. A story that really gets you rooting for Hilary and makes you feel like you are right there living in the village too.

4.0 out of 5 stars great holiday read
One does not go to Erica James for profound literature. That is not her target, which she has worked out and serves with great accuracy, and none the worse for that. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Time for a good read
The best kind of novel is one that captures and holds a reader's attention straightaway and Erica James' novels have this, often elusive, element. Read more
