Product Description

Product Description
Anna has a steady job, a good social life and a recently deceased relationship with unreconstructed hippy Nic. She has never changed a nappy or kissed a baby in her life, and that's the way she intends to keep things. Then Laura, her best friend, announces she's pregnant, Nic discovers he has a teenage son from a long-ago relationship, and Anna falls truly, madly, deeply in love - with one hitch. Anna's new Mr Wonderful, Michael, comes complete with a baby daughter. Does Anna really want a baby in her life? As broken nights, toys on the floor, and the carnage of children's parties take their toll, she begins to wonder. Then Fiona - blonde, beautiful, successful and, most worryingly, mother of the baby - reappears on the scene ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny and a true tale for today, 28 May 2002
By A Customer
Two's Company is really a delightful read. Even though it's definitively light fiction, it takes on the very real contemporary issue of single parents, dating, and partners who haven't made that choice for children. I never felt the way our heroine, Anna, does in this book - but I've sure had friends who did! Haasler writes with a dry, witty style, yet manages to make Anna very sympathetic. She's actually a natural caregiver, but just prefers to give care people who can cut their own food! Michael is the perfect modern guy, I like how they know from the start that they're meant for each other and the story focuses on how they work towards a balance. The story moves along, never drags and the secondary characters provide a lot of the humor. The ending is very satisfactory (and similar to the fates my "child-hating" friends came to!!) I'm looking forward to her next book and I thank my friend who made me read this book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Debut!, 16 May 2001
By A Customer
Two's Company is simply wonderful. Anna, the narrator, is me - and probably you! - and I shared every one of her emotions as she fell for her Tax Inspector, and her past (and his) seemed determined to ruin everything. Yes, it's a romance - but Sue Haasler's exceptional writing style lifts it way above the current yawn-making run of girlie books. There are some very clever, and extremely funny, references to Tolstoy (go on, read the children's party scene and see what I mean), and Dylan Thomas and Danny Kaye.

The writing is tight and skims across the page, taking you with it. There is no over-writing, no flowery padding - every word counts towards making this one of the best, funniest, and most intelligent, women's books you'll read this year. The humour is wonderful, the characters are so real that they walk off the page, and Sue Haasler is a star!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tender, warm-hearted romance with a twist, 20 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Sue Haasler has found a wondrefully fresh angle for a romance. For once, here is a heroine of a novel who hates children...and falls hopelessly in love with the father of a rather cute baby. Not that she can admit that, of course. She has her job at the wonderfully dreadful 'Caring Concern' office, and a girlfriend equally committed to a no-children existence. As long as they stick together they'll be fine...right? It seems fate has other plans.

This book is a romp through the best and worst of lifestyles with and without children. Take the phone off the hook - you won't want to be interrupted until you've read the whole thing!

Can't wait for the next one...
