About the Author

Hunter Davies is the author of over thirty books which include such modern classics as the authorised biography of The Beatles, The Glory Game and A Walk Around the Lakes. He has written several other walking books and also a travel biography of Christopher Columbus which took him to the West Indies and the Americas. He is also well known as a broadcaster and journalist and writes for the Independent, Sunday Times, Daily Mail and New Statesman. He is married to the novelist and biographer Margaret Forster.

Having been born and brought up in the Lakes - " A Walk in the Lakes" is a superb book for a re-visit, capturing the magic and mysteries of the Lake District.

Hunter Davies adds a pinch of history, with the Lakes poets and favourite characters, such as Ruskin, Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. He also mixes a little of the uniqueness of the Lakes villages and towns and introduces the reader to some of the locals!

The Lakes is a stunningly beautiful place steeped in histroy and Hunter Davies captures this in his writing - a superb book - made me want to visit home!

The Lake District has always inspired creative minds, none moreso that that of Wordsworth who is perhaps our best-loved poet. Hunter Davies, who is himself a Cumbrian and an enviable writer, brings the movers and shakers of the literary and artistic world to life in their connection with our most scenic corner of the UK.
