Product Description

Product Description

Kate Howard is no longer a struggling author. Far from it, she believes she leads a charmed life. A successful writer, for the past three years she has lived happily with her lover Stewart and her daughter Lucy in an old farmhouse in the beautiful, wild Auvergne region of central France. When her son announces that he too intends to move to France, it would seem that life for Kate could not be sweeter. Then comes a bolt from the blue, a phone call from Kate's literary agent in London that threatens her whole way of life. But worse is to follow with the arrival of newcomers Mo and Tristram. Mo is a striking beauty and charming - when it suits her. As Kate discovers, she's one of those people who brings chaos to other people's lives, and Kate's is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Authentic, 15 Jul 2002
By C Jones (Thame, Oxon United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Kate, an ex-pat author living in France, has to deal with the problems of being a writer as well as the vagaries of her family. When both her children come to live near her she thinks life can't get better but then she discovers that it has just got very much worse. I am a novelist myself and I could completely identify with Kate's struggle to put words on a page, the self-doubts about the quality of one's work and the absolute fear of rejection. Throw in a desciption of a corner of France that is obviously dear to Anita's heart and the book just reeks of authenticity. She obviously lives in France and adores both the people and the country - even if, at times, the French way of doing things can be a pain. I got totally bound up in the lives of Kate, her family and her friends and found this book to be a real page turner in the truest sense. Thank you, Anita, for a terrific read. I can't recommend this book highly enough to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another smashing book from Anita Burgh, 6 Aug 2001
'Exiles' is the continuing story of Kate Howard, the author heroine of Anita Burgh's earlier book 'Advances'. Kate's life is entirely different now, and Anita describes the trials and joys of the expatriate world with a sharply observant eye and a warm, down to earth voice. Her characters are vibrant and realistic, and you soon find yourself rooting for Kate as she faces the complications of being a successful author and at the same time being involved in a stormy relationship.

If you enjoy well written contemporary fiction with strong, interesting female characters, you will love this novel... Do read it!

This is another great book by a member of the Romantic Novelists' Association.
