Product Description

Product Description

Increasing numbers of women are having their first baby after forty - and with modern technology the age at which women can have children is rising further still. Although books on pregnancy and childbirth abound, a woman having her first child after the age of thirty or even forty has special needs and concerns which are different from those of younger women. This book looks at the pros and cons of having a first child later in life, discusses how to avoid or minimise the potential problems and offers guidance on looking after yourself and your baby. And because older women considering pregnancy are more likely than younger ones to think about life after the baby, it also takes a good look at family planning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book, 13 Dec 2007

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
It actually says something about how many women are having their first children at what used to be considered a late age, that so many copies of this very useful book are up for re-sale.

My wife was forty when our children arrived: as any woman expecting her first child after 28 is classed as "elderly primagravida" she joked about herself being "geriatric primagravida." Having children takes a lot out of any woman, and it takes a lot more out of you when you are older. Dr Penny Stanway's book was very helpful to us in addressing some of the issues which came out of this.
