Product Description

Product Description

Newcomer to the village Craddock Fitch is keen to make a splash by holding a village show - the best ever - in the grounds of his large house. Committee secretary and co-ordinator of the show Louise Bissett is the spoilt daughter of Sir Ron and Lady Sheila. Although a brilliant organiser, Louise is in deep personal trouble - and her growing obsession with Peter Harris, the married rector, can only end in tears. As the weeks roll by into summer and nerves tighten in anticipation of the great day, romances heat up and then cool down, tempers flare and misunderstandings multiply ... all relayed daily in the gossipy atmosphere of Jimbo Charter Plackett's village store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another interesting story about life in Turnham Malpas ., 4 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This is the fourth novel in this series of eight about the idyllic village of Turnham Malpas. I found it to be just as enjoyable as the rest even though I read it out of sequence.
We get a good insight into the mind of the rector Peter and find out more about Louise Bissett. Pat Duckett is seen in a different light and Gilbert Johns becomes a "real" character and not just a name mentioned in passing.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Show must go on, 23 Jan 2009
By C. White "YT" (Hertfordshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The fifth story from this series that I've read & probably the most disappointing. Louise Bissett is the central character & that's fine. My problem is that the book suddenly lurches in a different direction several times. After the opening & the planning of the show we suddenly are presented with the vicar and his wife having serious marital difficulties. As soon as this plotline arrived, it disappeared and we were presented with other couples problems again that seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
I like the Village trivialities and there are some nicely drawn characters. I just felt that the author was never entirely sure where this book was trying to go.
