5.0 out of 5 stars Another great from a master story-teller, 26 Mar 2001
I am a big fan of Anita Burgh, and this book didn't disappoint me.

Like all her books, the characters are strong and easy to identify with. I am always captivated by the end of the first couple of pages.

This book centres around the world of publishing. There are new writers (struggling to learn their craft amid marriage breakdowns, family problems, etc.), publishers, agents and everyone in between.

If you read any Anita Burgh book - and this one is no exception - you will learn something without even realising it. In this one I picked up quite a bit. I am a freelance writer (non-fiction) who is struggling to learn the art of fiction writing. This book gave me a useful tip. In one scene, a literary agent takes a call from a frantic author whose is having trouble writing in her usual manner. The agent asks her what she is reading at the moment. The reply was "Jackie Collins". That was why the author's style had changed. So, if I want to write like Jackie Collins I need to read Jackie Collins. I don't. Back to Anita Burgh - I intend to immerse myself in her!

You don't have to be a wannabe writer to enjoy Anita Burgh, though. Each book has an interesting, strong plot and is full of vivacious characters with complex lives. Her wit shines through, as does her incredible grasp of language. Highly recommended.
