Product Description

Product Description

Millionaire Yeovil fan Michael Bromfield made national headlines last year when he returned from the slopes of Everest in just four days to watch Yeovil's final matches against Hull and Lincoln. This season, Michael has spent the year travelling and working overseas but returning to England to watch his beloved Yeovil on 15 occasions. For every other fixture, he has followed the game by mobile or satellite phone or via Internet commentary from an unlikely combination of places and situations including being held up by Maoist Guerrillas in Western Nepal, crossing the Tibetan Plateau, leaving his tent at 21,000 ft on Everest in temperatures of minus 40 to call Huish Park, trekking in the Argentinean Andes and even whilst exploring the flesh pots of Southeast Asia. This book contains interviews with the Yeovil team's players, manager, coach and chairman and a comprehensive record of all Yeovil's games during this historic season. This is a book that will be enjoyed by discerning football fans everywhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing mish-mash, 19 Jan 2006
I found the book rather a mish-mash, not quite a football book or a travel book or an autobiography. I think the football sections are not up to "Behind the Green Door", and the travel sections are not up to Palin or Bryson. Bromfield does throw in a punter's guide to the Thai massage parlours he has frequented for 30 years, though - possibly more stimulating even than Yeovil's winning season. I agree about the self-obsession. A bit disappointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for Glovers "Anoraks" but marred by self-obsession, 1 Dec 2005
By A Customer
As a Yeovil Town FC fan, I found parts of this book a good read, including some sharp analysis of players and of each game, but the football sections are oddly mixed with the ramblings of the author, who clearly feels that the world revolves around him. I felt for his family left at home as he describes living every day according to his latest whim in far-flung locations, regardless of them and others. All in all, good in parts for Glovers followers, but marred in my view by the author's breathtakingly self-centred outlook.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute corker, 27 Nov 2005
By Ian (Dorset) - See all my reviews
The most innovative and entertaining football book that I have read in years.Full of passion, enthusiasm and always amusing. The author certainly does not take himself too seriously but this is a serious football book as well as an amusing read. Great statistical section and a comprehensive review of Yeovils Championship winning season.Chapter titles such as 'Scoring in Buenos Aires' 'Ecstacy at Southend' and 'Rochdale fans in Tibet' give you a taste of the way this book is written. With a colour section and over 100 pictures this offers excellent value and is essential reading for all Yeovil fans for sure but I think anyone with an interest in football will find it difficult to put this down. Much better than Fever Pitch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something completely different
I read the book in 24 hours and thought the mix of football and travel worked very well. The football content is excellent and the adventures of how the author stays in touch,... Read more
