1.0 out of 5 stars At a loss for words, 18 Oct 2005
By Archaeologist UK (Salisbury, Wiltshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This book is a terrible disgrace. The information it gives is largely wrong and in some cases the advice is dangerous. How on earth did this book ever make publication? Presumably it was never read by a professional archaeologist. To all those interested in the identifiation of archaeological finds, do not waste your money on this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A terrible disappointment, 29 Jul 2005
Any attempt to cover a topic as large as 'Archaeological Finds' is a bold step and requires the dedicated scholarship that can only be accumulated through years of research and consultation. However, it is apparent that this book is the product of neither of these steps. Information is at best confused, at worst simply wrong, whilst advice given on the treatment of artefacts is often misleading and can be very damaging. In places other people's work is clearly relied upon, but this is never acknowledged, and the bibliography simply doesn't contain much of the most up to date literature on archaeological finds. But perhaps the real danger is that this volume will become an easy and lazy way for some archaeologist to 'identify' finds, a task they often only pay lip service to already. Do yourself a favour, save a few pounds and buy some of the other more informative books available on Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars You are making a big mistake buying this, 12 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Shot through with inaccuracies, some facts clearly wrong, and apparently packed with images, lifted from other books, or tinkered with a little, and credit and thanks not proffered to original authors. Norena, Norena you only had to ask……
