4.0 out of 5 stars Good but we need more detail..., 3 Oct 2001
This seems the best compilation Geoff has put together to date.
As previously it mainly consists of pictures of the little known area of Colne - steeped in history and a crying shame that so much has been wasted. In the book Geoff carefully describes the areas that are historic and of which many are now gone.
My main criticism is that although the finger is pointed at certain `catastrophies` in the demolition of some historic areas (first cinema in the UK for example) there is little justification, rationalisation or explaination as to the simple question of `why?`.
It would have been nice to find out why some of the buildings were destroyed and for what reason - I feel more detail could have been placed with the book with regards to these issues, a section of the current state of the town and any planned developments could also find a place in my opinion. Although it is difficult to alter the content, there does seem to be some replication of previous books on the same subject, it would have been slightly better if the author had developed and built upon his previous offerings with a little more insight.
Overall a superb read and one that I have revisited on a number of occassions in a short space of time - I look forward to the next offering!
