5.0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Introduction to Brochs, 6 Mar 2004
By A Customer
There is one bad side to reading this book: Armit made me want to read more on brochs and Scottish history in general. His writing style is one of the very best that I have encountered in non-fiction.

The book has a good balance between reconstructions, other drawings, photographs and text. Armit gives a thorough account of the history of broch studies as well as of the history of the brochs them selves.

If you are in the least interested in Iron Age Scotland and/or brochs, you probably won't regret buying this one.

A true rarity, Armit is a specialist who can write an informative account in an accesable manner that is a pleasure to read. His approach makes studying a pleasure in comparison to many archaeological specialists who seem content to write for their own esteem. I would recommend this book to anyone with even the slightest interest in history. I cannot wait to revisit N.W Scotland to see the sites Armit has now brought to life!
