Product Description

Product Description

"Winning Lines" is a BBC1 quiz show from Celador, the people responsible for the quiz-show phenomenon "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?". It is a number-based quiz show designed to wrap around the National Lottery. Originally hosted by Simon Mayo, its third season is hosted by Philip Scofield. "Winning Lines" is all about numbers and contains three rounds. In the studio are the Forty-niners, 49 contestants who have to be the fastest to answer questions correctly in order to eliminate their opponents and go through to the next round. The top prize is a round-the-world trip. Like the "Millionaire" quiz books, the "Winning Lines" quiz book is interative but even more so, with 15 complete games for number wizards.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the fan, but not the regular Quiz compiler, 20 April 2008

(REAL NAME)
The show Winning Lines is long gone from our screens, and has been replaced by a succession of other BBC Saturday Night quizzes, some poor, some not so bad. However the quiz book remains with us.

The book itself tries to keep the flavour of the show, whereby it actually gives you the answers to the questions, and challenges you to remember them. You could have a bit of fun with this if you play along with it at home in the way the book suggests.

However, this isn't why I bought the book. I set quizzes regularly, and I am always on the look out for new sources of questions. Granted that the format allows it to ask some more unusual and difficult questions than normally found in a TV tie in. However I have to say that I found many of the questions in this rather run of the mill, and what is more, you don't get as many as you do in other TV tie in books. I'm not saying it's a waste of money, but if you're a quiz setter this really isn't going to be your first port of call every time you set out to start compiling your quiz.

So - my overall verdict is this. Fun to play at home, but of limited value to compilers
