Product Description
The West Wing has been named 'TV Show of the Year' by "Entertainment Weekly", and stars Stockard Channing, Dule Hill, Allison Janney, Rob Lowe, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff, Martin Sheen, John Spencer, and Bradly Whitford. "The West Wing Script Book" is a unique volume containing six scripts from the television phenomenon - winner of 22 Emmy Awards, including "Outstanding Drama" Series. The show has also won the Producers Fuild Award, Directors Guild Award, Writers Guild Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe, Humanitas Prize and the Peabody Award. Now, for the first time, you can relive your favourite moments from these superlative scripts. This volume includes some of the most emotive and best-loved episodes from the first two series, including the Emmy Award winning "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen". Also featured is an exlusive interview with creator, writer and director Aaron Sorkin, who explains how this idea for a political drama show became one of the most successful of all time, despite being told that 'shows about politics don't work'. These scripts demonstrate TV at its best, and are a thing to treasure and savour, time and time again.'President Barlet...is the best world leader that never was. Then there's the writing, the reason that "The West Wing" is so good. Sometimes...the dialogue reaches such levels of perfection, I could weep' - "Evening Standard". 'With this wonderful political drama, the writer Aaron Sorkin has created a cast of "savvy political operatives" who you would not only wqnt to run the country, but wouldn't mind letting into your life. The sense of brilliant people behaving honourably cannot fail to be moving: in the George Dubya age, we need this more than ever' - "The Times".'When it's like this - fast, funny, moving and smart - "The West Wing" is about as good as TV gets' - "Mirror". 'The show remains one of TV's most satisfying hours, a savvy blend of great acting, whip-smart dialogue and grand gestures. If ever the time were ripe for a romantic saltue to the value of public service, now would seem to be it' - Robert Bianco, "USA Today". 'The TV show of the Year! Prime-time's snuggliest blanket in which to curl up, The West Wing is terrific and only getting better. Grade: A' - Ken Tucker, "Entertainment Weekly".

5.0 out of 5 stars The sets great, the actors are great, but the script's best!, 7 Mar 2003
The West Wing - quite simply the most stunning drama to hit UK screens in years. I love it!

And now, you can live an American Dream of your own as you devour the pages of this, the most brilliant of scripts.

The West Wing Script Book contains six complete scripts from the series. The book begins with an introduction, written by the creator Aaron Sorkin, highlighting the problems that, in theory, a TV drama about the White House, would face - who would want to watch a drama about politics. Well, it seems, quite a few of us!

The six scripts chosen to be included are, from season one - "Pilot" and "A Proportional Response", and from season two, parts one and two of "In The Shadow of Two Gunmen", "17 People" and "Two Cathedrals".

At first, these episodes seem like quite a strange mix, and certainly do not include the very best episodes; however, as you read through the book, you begin to see why they were chosen.

From these six scripts, you are introduced to each main character that you'll encounter - the main players in Bartlet's West Wing. Also, they contain some of the most powerful scenes in the entire series, leading to a much better understanding of how the characters are feeling, and coping with their life, both socially and professionally.

Even if you've never seen any of the West Wing on TV, this is still a superb script book, and you're almost guaranteed to fall in love with Aaron Sorkins writing styles and techniques (that's if you're not already a fan!).

For anyone who has followed the series, this book is great, as you can really appreciate the talent that the TV producers have managed to assemble to really do justice for such a great script.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Penny Drops, 16 Jul 2005
By L G Thompson (Watford, Hertfordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Aaron Sorkin really is one of the best scriptwriters of our time and this book proves it. His scripts are so visual you can actually see the drama unfolding as you read.
If you are a fan of the West Wing and like me are also British these scripts illuminate some of the technical and political jargon used by the characters. The show is so fast paced that you often miss some of the dialogue. As you read these scripts you will occasionaly experience a mini-enlightenment as the penny drops. It is like adding the flake to your 99 which seems trivial but makes a whole lotta difference - something that you non-Brits might need someone to explain for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful words from a wonderful show, 27 Feb 2004
By J. Flaton (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In the Great Desert of American TV only a handful of shows are truly memorable. Like "Six Feet Deep", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Angel" or "The Sopranos". And "The West Wing", the witty, warmhearted and intelligent show about the denizens of the White House, created by Aaron Sorkin. Once, Joss Whedon told an audience "that he would kill te be Aaron Sorkin", and that says a lot for the initiated. Here are six scrips from Sorkins hand (the pilot, "A Proportional Response", "In the Shadow of two Gunmen - Parts I & II", "17 People" and the masterful "Two Cathedrals". This is tv-writing at its best, though it is even better to watch those words being spoken by those wonderful actors.
