3.0 out of 5 stars Held ones attention but not as gripping as Lion's Game, 19 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Gold Coast (Paperback)
Having read Lion's Game I immediately bought every book written by the same author, & this was the first one I read. It is an unusual story of a US lawyer married into money who finds a Mafia boss has moved in as a new neighbour. The way that this interferes with & ultimately destroys all their lives is wholly unpredictable and holds ones attention.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will leave you wanting to read more by this author., 6 Jun 2001
By katherinepounder@aol.com (North East England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gold Coast (Paperback)
The Gold coast was given to me as a gift, not having read any of Nelson Demille's I started to read the book with an open mind and no knowledge of the authors style. I was soon hooked, it soon became apparent this was one of those books you did not want to put down. The story is of how a previous law abbiding citizen, married into 'old money, becomes involved with the 'new money ' of a big Mafia boss. It tells of his struggle with his conscience, his spiral downwards and the inevitable tragic consequences. The story is well written, but tends to loose its momentum two thirds of the way through, as if the story has been taken up by another writer, and by the last page it is a relief that all the loose ends have been tied up and you can move onto another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from De Mille, 5 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Gold Coast (Paperback)
Once again, a great read from a great (and clever) author who manages to mix a literary cocktail of wit, suspense, good story-telling and plot. Without describing the main characters in physical detail, they take on a recognisable form within a few pages. From the central character in mid-life crisis, to the aloof and sexually inviting wife, to the disarmingly dangerous mafia boss - they all take on a deep and darker dimension. Set in the affluence and privelege of the social set on the Gold Coast, De Mille serves up a story thats starts slowly but leaves you hanging on to the seat for the conclusion. As usual, the humour, pervades the dialogue and adds to the charm without detracting from the drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could not put this down
Intriguing and brilliantly written book. It is the bits that De Mille does not describe that make you think the most, he uses the reader's imagination wonderfully. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars The Gold Coast
an intruging plot from the very off. Takes a bit off getting used too, but once you get into it, it's almost like the Godfather of books, mafia deception, huge houses, big money... Read more
