5.0 out of 5 stars Star Shocked, 9 Jun 2009
This review is from: Star People (Paperback)
This was the final Paul Burston book to read after recently discovering his writing talents.
Star People was totally different from his other books - just as exciting and brilliantly written - again I finished it in just over 2 days and again found it hard to put down.
Star People reminded me a bit of a gay version of a Jackie Collins book but with more depth - without giving the plot away I was shocked by the ending - I thought I could have guaranteed what the outcome would be - how wrong I was.
As always with his books I was drawn into the characters lives and felt I was there with them - it helped I have been to LA so could picture exactly the places being described - I really liked Billy West the main character and wavered between liked and hated the other main character Matt Walsh.
Again a fantastic read and not one easily forgotten.
Paul Burston now needs to be more prolific and produce a book every week!!
If you havent read Star People then you must - I guarantee you will be 100% as satisfied as the characters are in his book.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Pretty Woman' this aint..., 23 Aug 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Star People (Paperback)
Read this book on holiday recently and although I was in Cornwall...it took me to the sleazy underbelly of L.A. - not so shiny once you scratch the surface... very wittily written, with some fantastically catty one liners.

Burston's previous book 'Shameless' is also well worth a look....roll on his next book. Hope it's out in time for my next holiday.

2.0 out of 5 stars I've enjoyed his other books, but I'd give this one a miss..., 22 Oct 2007

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Star People (Paperback)
`Star People' is set in West Hollywood. Matt Walsh is a film action-hero, rumoured to be gay, but keeping his private life private. That is until he falls for a young hustler called Billy West. Matt is protected by his publicist Lee Carson, but with the amount of enemies she has, she might be more of a hindrance than a help!

I bought `Star People' because I loved `Lovers and Losers.' Unfortunately, the quality of the writing (and the jokes) is nowhere near as good. Whole chapters are dedicated to giving back stories to characters, I would much rather have learnt about them during the course of the story and this felt like a lazy way of writing. The ending is also abrupt and unsatisfying, and you can predict what is going to happen about half way through the book.

It's a shame to say, but I'd give this one a miss and read `Lovers and Losers' instead
