Review

'Not only does this demonstrate the variety of writing under the Crime mantle, it also serves up bite-size samples, perfect for making you miss your stop on the bus.' GLASGOW HERALD 'You don't get better than this list...' CRIME TIME

Product Description

To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Crime Writers' Association this volume gathers together short stories by the authors who encapsulate the perennial appeal of the mystery novel. From its founder, John Creasey, to the winner of the 2002 Cartier Diamond Dagger, Robert Barnard, here are perfect gems of murder and mayhem from such luminaries as Colin Dexter, Dick Francis, Ian Rankin, Peter Lovesey, Eric Ambler, Julian Symons, H.R.F. Keating, Ngaio Marsh, Ellis Peters, Ruth Rendell and many more. A box of delights, some hard-centred, some soft, sprinkled with a smidgeon of poison.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection, 14 May 2005

This review is from: Mysterious Pleasures (Paperback)
This volume, published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Crime Writers' Association, contains short stories from many authors, including the founder of CWA John Creasey, other authors of yesteryear such as Margery Allingham, alongside some of the biggest names in contemporary crime writing such as Ian Rankin and Val McDermid. The short story presents a particular challenge to the writer, and those represented in this collection rise to it extremely well. There is a real mixture of styles - self-contained mysteries and riddles, recollections, and several that leave you wondering just what has happened when they draw to their sinister conclusion. Well worth reading for any crime fiction devotee.
