5.0 out of 5 stars Once An Actress, Always An Actress, 24 Sep 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Actresses (Paperback)
And so Barbara Ewing was..... and you can tell. She has every character to a tee. As an ex-actress myself I found myself laughing and crying at all the foibles, insecurities and `luvvie' speak of her wonderful characters.

After reading Ewings latest novel The Trespass I wanted to read more of her work and chose this one - what a great choice. Not only are the characters real but the plot is intricately woven keeping you on the edge of your seat right till the last page. She really is very clever at it!

This novel takes us away from todays TV celebrity and reality stars to a time when actors had to work their nuts off for any recognition - the days of repertory theatre, proper auditions, and little money for the majority. You are only as good as your last part!!!!

Don't miss this unputdownable read!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Actresses, 22 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Actresses (Paperback)
After a slow start this book was well worth keeping with it. the first half of the book introduces the characters - quite a lot of them! and deals with what they are doing how they met etc. The second half is completely intriging and keeps you gripped, not wanting to put the book down. Also the plot twists and turns like you wouldn't expect. A truly great read, my first Barbara Ewing read, I will definately try another!

5.0 out of 5 stars An unforgettable and wonderful book., 9 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Actresses (Paperback)
This unforgettable bitter-sweet story of a group of 50-something actors & actresses who meet for an annual reunion is a truly great read. The characters are so human, so real that when I finished the book, it was like having to say goodbye to old friends. The writer skillfully darts from past to present, keeping the reader guessing as the plot thickens. Anyone who, like me, was very young in the 1960's and has been a member of the acting profession - albeit briefly - will find this book particularly moving. Thank you, Ms. Ewing, for this wonderful, wonderful story.
