3.0 out of 5 stars A well designed mystery, 16 Dec 2007
By Philippe Horak (Zug, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Tom Whitehead had never heard of Operation Gold Dust. Why would he? No reason for respected middle-class academic, loving husband and father of two to be aware of an international investigation into internet paedophilia. Until he finds himself at the centre of it. Raided by the police at dawn, and in the full glare of the paparazzi, Tom is hauled away for questioning - about the pornography found on his computer that it was paid for with his credit card and about the overwhelming, conclusive evidence against him. As he is questioned, he discovers that this was no random search, that he has been under investigation for some time. The police acquired his details from the National Criminal Intelligence Service - via the FBI. But why? And how?
An innocent man, Tom needs to know urgently why he has been framed. Because there is something sinister going on - something that threatens to strike at everything he holds dear...
The book provides good entertainment. It is very well read by Daniel Philpott for ISIS Audiobooks.

4.0 out of 5 stars A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING, 8 Feb 2006
By Creeda Fitzgibbon "creeda" (ireland) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Enemy Within (Paperback)
The first Paul Adam I read was Sleeper - a fascinating thriller about a violin (yes, a violin!). I then read all his other books in one go and really looked forward to Enemy Within.
However it was a bit disappointing - mainly because the hero seems particulalry foolish - but then most academics would cope rather badly with real life threats. Somewhat like the old Dracula movies, where the heroine is told not to open the window and of course immediately proceeds to do so, our hero is told not to use the phone, but does - and is then located by the villains.
For that reason I rate this book as only 4 out of 5. It is however most readable and quite exciting in parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars it could happen to anyone, 19 Dec 2007
By Ravski (Devon, England) - See all my reviews
Having read other Paul Adam books, I expected an intellingent page-turning rollercoaster of a thriller - I wasn't disappointed. Knowing that the research behind Adam's books is spot on- so the level of surveillance technology used by the powers that be in 'Enemy Within' must be in existence- makes this 'big-brother' scenario all the more chilling. The main character is something of an everyman, with a naivity about every-day technology most of us probably share. An innocent forced to turn fugitive, his life is turned upside-down as he tries to get to the bottom of what's happended to him whilst desparately staying one step ahead of the violent villains of the story. You turn the pages with your heart in your mouth, starkly aware of how vulnerable we all are in this modern age of technology - I didn't use my mobile for weeks after reading it!! More please...

Truly unputdownable, a real page-turner. If the "faceless ones" have the powers depicted in this book, this country is more frightening than I realized. BRILLIANT!
