One star, because I apparantly can't give it none. The opening pages seem to promise me a great read, but this feeling quickly dissipated as the unlikely, mind numbingly boring characters and undeveloping plot line left me not caring what happened next.

I thought this was a very odd book. We could have done with a lot more information about the sisters early life, and more explanation as to where their father had been all these years. Most unsatisfactory.

Not an especially stunning read.

Unfortunately, the characters are not as enchanting as Fyfield's usual offerings. It is difficult to pinpoint who exactly we should be focusing on to gain the best grasp of the plot. Even by the final page of the book, you are left feeling that you never really heard enough from any one character to really care about their wellbeing. And that is vital to any story.

However, her wonderful style of writing is always a pleasure to read and the sense of place is outstanding. Therefore, it is still not to be missed.

'Undercurrents' is by far my favourite of her novels.
