5.0 out of 5 stars fast pace, great action, never lets up, 17 Nov 2000
By A Customer
I really enjoyed this book. Not only was the beginning good but the pace was maintained throughout right to the end. This does not happen very often.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my best reads - ever!, 6 Jun 2000
By A Customer
They don't get much better than this - a good plot and you can't help but live the ordeal with the characters. (I had reservations initially believing this was going to be another predictable Death Row story.)

Where have I been to have missed Klavan in the past I wondered?

I'm normally not shy with words, but enough said on this occasion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must rate as one of the best books I've read!, 14 Jul 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: True Crime: the Novel (Paperback)
I've never read a "Death Row" book before, probably assuming that they're a dime a dozen. But this book was truly excellent and I am surprised it hasn't achieved a higher profile. It is gut-wrenching from the start and you can feel yourself participating emotionally very early on. It also helps that it is so well-written with the right dose of humour at various times.

I have tried to figure out why the book hasn't become a movie and I can only think of two reasons. The first is quite simply that "the good guy" is such an undesirable that movie-makers may have been put off. The second is that it could be a real challenge to deliver the same sort of tension and emotion in a movie!

A genuinely good article and I'll definitely be reading more of his books.
