Product Description

THE Bookseller

`A real weepy. Great stuff' Sarah Broadhurst, --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Product Description

Emma Blair once again richly evokes the setting and characters of Scotland during the 30s. Continuing the story she began in FLOWER OF SCOTLAND, Emma invites the reader back into the lives of the Drummond family, who are still dealing with the aftermath of the First World War but now must also face up to the horrors of the Second. Andrew and Rose are running the distillery and have given a job to Jack's son, Tommy. Tommy hates the work and longs to be a pilot but Jack, horribly disfigured after the first war, forbids it. The onset of the new war sweeps aside any such decision...Andrew and Rose must cope with the loss of their baby; Andrew tries to manage as Rose's behaviour becomes increasingly bizarre but finds he must also face up to his own failing health...An enormously touching story and life, love and death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulls on ones Heart strings., 22 April 2001
By A Customer
I have read this book many times and every time I enjoy it, having read the previous two in the series I feel very much as if I know the characters, the ending never fails to make me cry and I allways hate Rose for neglecting Andrew and participating in a scandleous one-night-stand with another man. I feel that this is a wonderful novel to read if you wish to wrap yourself around anothers life, or you just simply wish to read about the feeling know as love.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average reading, but predictable, 14 Feb 2000
By A Customer
This book started ok, but the characters seemed to change mid way through, without a reasonable explanation. The narrative was moderate to poor but not off-putting. The main let down was the ending which was written very poorly. Instead of wrapping up the book over a few chapters to give a satisfactory ending, the book concluded quickly with a chapter and a post script, set about ten years on. Both of these lacked originality and seemed to copy many other books in this genre. Can no one come up with an original ending, or at least add something different to an over used idea.
