Product Description

Product Description

Success in management and success in sport are derived from the same basic principles. Top performance in both depends on two key elements: maximizing potential and overcoming the barriers to achieving goals. This work is the result of a meeting of minds from two of the most successful men in their respective fields. Focusing on the motivational principles on which sporting excellence is founded, and applying them to the business arena, England rugby captain Will Carling and management guru Robert Heller present a manual for those who aspire to be winners. Whether describing England rugby manager Geoff Cooke's strategies for Grand Slam glory, or Sir John Harvey-Jones' reinvention of ICI, the parallels are self-evident: master yourself, work with others, and the way to win is clear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good light read for people not wanting a how to manual., 15 Feb 2002

This book could never be a failure could it!! So I approached it with something of a bad attitude. But I was wrong. OK, so its no Stephen Covey and all of the concepts are well known but it is original.

My complaint was going to be that it used Will's star status to sell a poor book but Will actually uses his status to get the low down on famous people such as Daley Thompson, Adrian Moorhouse, Seb Coe and Gary Liniker. He then links the concepts with their situations.

Now as a business coach I am somewhat bored of the same old personal development "stories" so these were great to read and interesting because we all love to hear of the exploits of people we know.

A cross between management development, biography and personal development - read it on holiday, enjoy it and feel like you've read something worthwhile too!
