4.0 out of 5 stars an enjoyable read, 15 Aug 2001
By A Customer
I very much enjoyed this book, the plot centred around a cry for help from an ex-patient. This is no normal young man, but a precocious young genius who is almost a totally unsympathetic character. He is arrested for a series of murders committed whilst in a psychotic state.

The plot unfolds in timely fashion, and if you are anything like me you will have made a couple of wrong guesses before the final denouement.

A nice change from the beautiful wide eyed little children Alex Delaware seems to find himself protecting. I was also pleased that he didn't get too involved in confronting the perpetrators, avoiding the final confrontation scene which is played out so often, with the hero taking on the villain single handed and ending the book terribly injured, but having survived (yawn).

Interesting, enjoyable and well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thriller that keeps you hanging over the edge to the end, 12 Aug 2001
By A Customer
I have now read about 5 of Jonathon Kellerman's books and I am yet to be disappointed by one. Over the Edge is sharply written and completely compeling. I read it in two days straight over a rainy weekend and experienced that sense of loss and sadness when a really good read is finished. The book starts with an ex-patient of Alex's calling for help in the middle of the night. The boy is later found at the scene of the latest in a long line of slasher serial murders with a knife in his hand. He is now completely psychotic or is he?

3.0 out of 5 stars Over The Edge, 13 Mar 2009
By molko (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Over the Edge (Paperback)
As you may already know this is the 3rd in Jonathan Kellermans long running Alex Delaware series. It starts with one of Alex's ex-patients, a troubled young man believed to be suffering from schizophrenia, contacting him after escaping from the mental hospital he was being held at. It leads to an unforunately long winded story of family secrets, corrupt businessman and the deranged mentally handicapped that usually bring something extra to Kellermans stories.
This one however seemed to fall a bit flat for me, too long considering the slow pace. I'll definately continue this series having been impressed with the previous books; When the Bough Breaks & Blood Test. And kudos must go to Kellerman for his amazing prose and character descriptions which really are a driving force for the series.
