5.0 out of 5 stars Staying One Step Ahead, 27 Oct 2003
By Mr Neville Langley (Andover, Hampshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is the book I've been waiting for. Anyone who thinks they know anything about this wine MUST buy Wine Report 2004. The concept is so blisteringly simple, I can't fathom why it wasn't thought of long ago. The world of wine is changing so fast that not even the experts can keep up, so the likes of you and I have no chance. That's why Tom Stevenson put together a team of almost 40 wine experts to report on their own specialist subjects each year (and they're all A-list experts). It's full of inside information about what has happened over the last 12 months, plus the latest vintage reports for absolutely everywhere. Sometimes the most obscure wine areas have the largest chapters! Each expert provides Top 10s of the greatest, best value, fastest improving and up-and-coming producers. There are also Top 10s for greatest, best-value and most unusual wines, although it is not meant to a buyer's guide. In fact most of the wines are not even available on the UK market. If you want to buy the best Australian Chardonnay under a fiver, forget this book, but if want to know what the cutting-edge wines are from emerging wine regions or discover new and unusual wines from the world's classic wine regions, then Wine Report is for you. It's a book that won't suit everybody. It assumes a certain level of knowledge - thank goodness! It's fantastic. I cannot wait for Wine Report 2005.

4.0 out of 5 stars From champagne to the wines of Lebanon - many surprises, 14 Dec 2003
Ever since I bought this book I have been trying to get it back from other members of the household. Mrs Mrad was particularly taken by the section on champagne, and I was very pleased by the survey of organic wine.

As a native of the Middle East, however, I particularly savoured the section on Lebanese wine, which really is now emerging as a country with surprises, variety and good value. The wines recommended by the writer are uniformly good.

The book is excellent value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading, 3 Nov 2003

(REAL NAME)
Superb in concept and execution. This book provides the winelover with all the detail and up to the minute news about wine regions across the world. This book is a must have. Tom Stevenson is to be congratulated in pulling all the contributions together in such a uniform and coherent way and I hope that he will have the energy to do the same every year. Winelovers should support him in this endeavour by purchasing this book and recommending it to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fruity, fabulous and at ten pounds a bargain
A very interesting book for anyone who likes a tipple and has anything more than a passing interest in what's in the bottle. Read more
