My only experience of this book was when travelling round the south of France in 2006 (so only 2 years after it was published).

The first time we tried to use it was when we first arrived off the plane and headed towards one of the hotels we liked the look of (we like to just fly, hire a car and see where we end up sometimes - these are often the best holidays). I decided to try calling ahead to let them know we were on our way so I called the number in the book and it was a dead tone. Not a great start. Never mind, we thought, it all adds to the adventure. We then found another stunning looking hotel and as we were heading that way decided to just turn up. So we programmed our international sat nav and set off. Several hours later, after driving round in circles and this time the phone just rang off the hook (when I got fed up enough to try calling) so we gave up! But as I like a happy ending, I will tell you that whilste we couldn't find the hotel in the book, the direction it took us in did lead us to the most gorgeous hotel (better than the one in the book infact).

Anyway, I have given 2 stars as I do love Eyewitness guides normally and the photos were lovely, but (and this may just be a very unfortunate coincidence) both the hotels we tried appeared not to exist and it's not like our book was massively out of date.
