I really enjoyed reading this book as it is very well laid out and easy to understand. I don't agree that it asks you to calculate every calorie you eat, but merely requires you to be sensible about meals. It is great for anyone who finds the 'no snacks between meals' rule difficult as it suggests taking three small meals a day with two high-carb snacks in between! All in all, I believe this book is great for someone who would like to achieve weight loss by changing their eating habits for life, instead of going on a faddy diet and then putting it all back on again! It also includes good advice on fitness training.

At first the principals of this book are simple; 'If you reduce your calorie intake by 250 per day and increase your excersise to burn 250 calories per day, at the end of a week you will have lost 3500 calories which equates to 1lb of fat' It explains how to not crash diet because all you will lose is water and muscle tissue which will return as soon as you start to eat properly again which is where most people end up! There is also a chapter on the types of food you should eat and in which ratio, along with some simple excersises anyone can do at home. The only draw back is that you need to calculate each calorie you eat and then know its componants i.e. what percentage of your calorie is carbohydrate, how much is protien and how much is fat. This makes it slightly complicated. Overall the pricipals are sound and effective allowing you to eat several meals a day without starving! (My kind of diet) This is not a get slim quick book, it is a gradual process which allows you to reach your required weight safely and stay there permanently.
