At last a book about British police cars! In the past most publications have delat with law enforcement vehicles in the USA, but Malcolm Bobbitt's excellent book fills that gap. This is an extremely well researched work which covers police vehicles from the very earliest up to the present day with a large number of clear black and white photographs with informative notes. Each chapter deals with a different aspect, for example the pioneers, Panda cars or motorway patrols and notes the many changes which took place. The text is all at the beginning of each chapter which means one can read through this without interruption and then peruse the photos all together. The details of vehicles used are accurate and include technical specifications and there are details of different routes taken by individual police forces for vehicle purchasing. An excellent read with many fine photos. The only criticism would be that they are all black and white - it would have been nice to have some colour photos of the striking modern liveries.

This is a great book for the police vehicle enthusiast. It spends about the right length of time on old and new vehicles. Some minor details are incorrect, but don't let this put you off. An excellent read and full of pictures too. Richard Thompson
