Product Description

Product Description

Mummies are time travellers, tangible ghosts. In this informative, rich and readable A-Z compendium, world-renowned Egyptologist and mummy expert Bob Brier broadens our understanding of what mummies are, who they were, and how they came to be mummies. A timely book about a rapidly expanding area of interest, it includes descriptions of famous mummies from Napoleon, Lenin and Eva Peron to Tutankhamen and the Ice Man of the Alps. The global coverage offers views on Egyptian, Chinese, Italian, Peruvian and Native American mummies, among others, while the timescale moves through Ancient Egyptian mumification methods right to the present-day cryogenic techniques. Brier also documents the influence of mummies upon literature, film, the visual arts and popular culture. This book contains all the tools you could need in solving the riddle that every mummy contains.

About the Author

4.0 out of 5 stars A great overview of mummies., 14 May 1999
By A Customer
A great overview of all types of mummies. It even covers pop culture. Bob Brier has greater knowledge then most of mummies, he even made one himself!

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, 8 Dec 1998
By A Customer
An exremly sketchy overview of the different types of mummies created by different societies in the past. Also, at one point in the book something is dated as the year zero. There is no such date.
